Founder @ Builders
Builders outside the bubble: "Your product actually solves my problem."
Builders inside the bubble: "Your product is technically impressive."
in the end you're just building for people who understand your jargon vs people who need your solution
there is no product that doesn't start in an echo chamber
and if there is, chances are it won't get initial traction from people who get it
the problem with staying in the bubble is that validation becomes the main point and what everybody focuses on
how many products can you name that got 1000 upvotes on HN but zero revenue? I could probably name 10 on top of my head right now
building for builders is fine of course if that's your market, I mean everybody wants validation from their peers, there's nothing wrong with that
the wrong part about echo chamber building is when you confuse peer validation with market validation, effectively building features nobody outside your bubble will pay for, that's what I call wasted time
your job as a founder is to break out early, but that also doesn't mean you can ignore your technical peers completely and think you'll build something solid
everything is feedback rn, nobody is willing to tell you the truth especially in a world like tech Twitter where everyone is overly supportive
in conclusion: there are always going to be echo chambers, whether that's tech Twitter or your industry Discord. the good thing? there is no good thing, goal for a founder is to find real users outside your bubble and build for their actual problems. there are always going to be real customers and if you're solving real problems you will find them.
who knows we might come back to rewarding products that just work?? maybe? maybe not? idk
