Find evidence of demand before you disappear into the codebase

The fastest way to waste a month is to confuse excitement with demand. Validation is not asking people whether your idea is cool. It is collecting evidence that a specific person has a painful problem, already tries to solve it, and will take a next step.

Start with the problem, not the product

Write the problem in one sentence: who has it, when it shows up, and what it costs them. If you cannot name all three, you are still in idea mode.

Weak: “A better dashboard for creators.”
Strong: “Newsletter operators with paid sponsors lose two hours every Friday reconciling booked ads, live links, and screenshots.”

Collect evidence in public

Pain comments

People reply with stories, not compliments.

Workarounds

They mention spreadsheets, services, scripts, or manual labor.

Follow-up asks

They ask to see the prototype, join the list, or share details.

Post the problem, not the pitch. The goal is to attract people who recognize the situation and can describe what happens today.

Turn interest into interviews

When someone reacts strongly, ask for a short call. Keep the promise clean: you are researching the workflow, not pitching.

“This sounds like exactly the workflow I am researching. Could I ask you five questions about the last time it happened? No pitch - I am trying to understand the current workaround.”

Ask for a small commitment

If the pain is urgent, ask whether they would pre-order, reserve a slot, or pay for concierge help.

Build only after the pattern repeats.

Three strong conversations beat fifty likes. When the same trigger, same workaround, and same cost show up repeatedly, you have enough signal to build the smallest useful version.
