Grow Faster with the AI Content Tools
Five built-in AI tools that turn 5-minute updates into something people actually engage with
The single biggest reason indie hackers stop building in public isn't time—it's the blank page. You sit down to post an update, stare at the cursor, and close the tab. Three weeks later you wonder why your audience isn't growing.
The AI content tools are designed to remove the blank page from the loop entirely.
In this guide
The five tools at a glance
Post Generator
All membersTurn a one-line idea into a full update draft using GPT-4. Pick a tone (casual, technical, story, milestone) and let it write the first pass.
Engagement Analyzer
All membersPaste your draft and get a score out of 100 plus 3-5 specific suggestions for stronger hooks, clearer asks, and tighter copy.
Variations
All membersGenerate three rewrites of the same update so you can A/B test what lands. Useful for repurposing across X and LinkedIn.
Content Ideas
All membersStuck for what to post? The idea generator pulls from your profile, projects, and recent activity to suggest 5 prompts you could write today.
DALL-E Images
Pro & upGenerate cover images and inline visuals for your updates with DALL-E 3. Pro members get a monthly allotment; tokens cover the rest.
Generate a post from scratch
Open the composer at /updates/new and click the Generate button. The tool asks for two inputs:
1. The seed
A sentence or two about what you actually shipped. Example: “finished the Stripe Connect onboarding flow”.
2. The tone
Casual, technical, story, or milestone. Each tone uses a different prompt template tuned for that audience.
The generator always pulls from your profile and recent projects so the output sounds like you, not like generic ChatGPT marketing copy.
Get engagement suggestions
Already wrote your draft? Hit Analyze. You'll get back a score plus a checklist of specific, actionable changes:
- Hook strength—does line one earn the second line?
- Specificity—real numbers, names, and screenshots beat vague claims.
- Call to action—is there a clear reason to comment or click?
- Length—trimmed if too long, expanded if too thin.
Create variations & ideas
Variations: Click variations on any draft and pick from three rewrites in different angles (story, contrarian, tactical). Useful for testing which framing your audience actually engages with.
Content ideas: When you have nothing to write, the idea generator pulls from your profile, projects, and recent activity to suggest five concrete prompts you could write today. Pick one, hit generate, and you have a draft in seconds.
Generate DALL-E images
A great visual lifts engagement on every platform. Pro members can generate DALL-E 3 images directly inside the composer—cover art for milestones, hero shots for launches, or just a fun illustration to break up a wall of text.
Pro monthly allotment
Pro and Founder's Circle members get a generous monthly image quota included.
Tokens cover overflow
Beyond the monthly allotment, each image costs a small token amount. See How Tokens Work.
Best practices & limits
Use AI as the first pass, not the final pass
Generate, then edit in your voice. Posts that read as pure AI underperform every time.
Keep the seed honest
The generator can't invent context. Garbage in, generic out. The more specific your seed, the better the output.
Don't generate every post
Save AI for the days you're stuck. The most engaged builders mix raw human posts with AI-assisted ones.
Watch your daily post limit
Free accounts post 1/day, Pro 10/day. AI tools count toward the same limit—they don't bypass it.
Kill the blank page.
Open the composer, hit Generate, and post the update you've been putting off all week.
